The first day of school…..

What a FUN & exciting 1st day of school we had here in the Alicke household!! What made it fun you might ask…..well we had THREE kiddo’s heading out the door this a.m & 1 Papa :)

Kayley started Kindergarten today (she has Mrs Baker who was Jacob’s teacher last year at WRE)….

Jacob started 1st grade and has Miss Clark at WRE….and Laura started 9th grade at the Lake Highlands Freshman Center! We have tried to get the word out to as many of you as possible that we have decided for Laura to stay for this school year and go to school here in the states!! She AND we are SO VERY excited!!! Falk also started his last year today at DTS!! YEAH!! What a day!!!

Of course the morning was full of a mix of emotions for me, BUT with the excitement the kids woke up with who couldn’t be excited for the day ahead!!

We took tons of pictures, of course, except not at the freshman center (b/c that wouldn’t have been so cool J lol)-but I did tell Laura we’ll go up there one day on a weekend and get a picture of her in front and “stage” her first day so all the family in Germany can see where she goes to school!!

The day started out just as we had prayed for for ALL three kids! Praise God!!

Quick (well sorta quick) recap:

**Laura was able to get a quick schedule change first thing this a.m. (thanks to her cross country coach)—yes you heard it right, Laura, on her own I might add, has joined the CC team of Lake Highlands High School!! We are so excited for her to be a part of this team. She has met so many neat kids in the past few days with early morning practices and their first meet last Saturday. She is truly thriving and its only the end of day ONE!!! This too is a huge answer to prayer!! She was smiling ear to ear when I picked her up this afternoon and talked 90 miles an hour the entire ride home—I loved it!!! It was definitely a cultural shock I believe, but one that she seemed to take in stride today and just go with the flow of a new routine, schooling system, and pretty much EVERYTHING was new—oh and the best thing-SHE LOVES HER FRENCH TEACHER—this is HUGE for those of you that know Laura and her love/hate relationship with French-and she is the ONLY freshman in French 3 and was able to answer/understand the teacher when most of the other students couldn’t J she was super excited about that!! She is excited for tomorrow and her first early morning CC practice and then getting ready with the team and heading to school by 9:10 (isn’t that nice they start so late!!)

**Jacob: oh sweet Jacob-our boy who has ALWAYS loved school and learning! He woke up with a smile and was ready to start his day at 6:30 this a.m. At breakfast he was so excited he said he was freezing and shaking b/c he was so excited!! It was so cute J lol- he was dressed and ready with his backpack on at 6:50 this a.m.-hope we can keep that enthusiasm up all year—I’ll remind him of this around April 1st J He ran in his class and never looked back. Thankfully I did get a glance to blow him a kiss, pops got a smile and off he went to work at his DESK-this is his favorite thing so far about 1st grade…no more tables but a desk!!

**Kayley:  Our brave little princess! She was also excited this a.m. that she could hardly stand it!! Jacob continually gave her tips all morning on how to make her 1st day in kindergarten successful!! She does have Jacob’s teacher from last year and we are SO THRILLED!!!! After dropping off Jacob, we headed down to the kindergarten hallway and Kayley too never looked back. She walked right in and found her seat (at the same table Jacob had last year-they thought that was fun). We read her the morning work and like her brother off she went to work, we snapped a picture, got a quick smile, and off she went into the new world of kindergarten!! When I picked her up today I asked if she made any friends…she quickly answered yes and I asked their names..she was able to remember 1 little girl, but said “the rest got lost in brain”—I hear ya sweet girl-that happens to moms all the time!!! I love my sweet keks—mom is so proud of her big kindergartener!!!

So as expected, I shed a few tears of joy and sadness as we entered into this new stage of life…. As we dropped Laura off last, I  held Macey a little tighter realizing how fast the time truly does fly….and spent the day in prayer for my babies as they venture off into this new school year & Macey I figure out what life is like with only two of us at home :) ………enjoy the pictures–there are a lot of them-click on each picture and you’ll get a larger view!!
